Youth Application Form

How will my child benefit from joining Scouting?

We give young people the skills they need for school, college, university, the job interview, the important speech, the tricky challenge and the big dreams: the skills they need for life.

Yes, we go camping, hiking, swimming, abseiling, cycling and canoeing. But we also get to hang out with our friends every week – having fun, playing games, working in a team and taking on new challenges.

Application Form

In order to add the young person’s details to our Joining List, please complete the form below, which will be sent to one of our leaders.

Please note this is a Joining list not a Waiting list. It is a register of interest, therefore we cannot guarantee a place with us. We are run by volunteers, just like you. By helping out, we can make more places available.

Update December 2023:

At the moment our Squirrel, Beaver and Cub Sections are at capacity and we are unlikely to have any places available well into next year. We constantly review this and will update here if the situation changes.

There may be places for 10 to 14 year olds in Scouts if you meet the criteria below.

As places do become available we allocate them to young people according to certain criteria:

  1. If they are an existing member (e.g. Squirrel or Cub) who is moving up to the next section.
  2. If their Parent/Carer is volunteering as a leader or has a role on the management team for Scouts.
  3. They have a sibling already in Scouts and a Parent/Carer who is volunteering.
  4. They are already a member of Scouting in another area and have recently moved to our area and the Parent/Carer is willing to help out.
  5. They live in the Fulfood area (roughly the Western/Westgate catchment area).

As you can see from the list above our top criteria for new members joining at any level is that a Parent/Carer agrees to volunteer with us. We have been very successful with this over the last 3 years which has enabled us to grow rapidly however we are currently not looking for new volunteer leaders in the younger sections.

Where we do need help is for leaders in the Scouts age and in the management side of running the Scout Group. If you feel you might be able to help out with one of the roles below then please get in touch and we will talk about the next steps and endeavour to find a place for your young person.

With such a large Group we need people with the skills to help manage the admin, planning and organisation of 120 young people and around 80 adult volunteers.

We are looking for:

  • Group: Secretary
  • Group: Leader and Volunteer Administrator
  • Group: Child Coordinator and Planner
  • Group: Census and DBS Administrator
  • Scout Leader/Coordinator

Please take a look here for more details: https://www.11thwinchester.org.uk/Adults/Vacancies

You will be given full training and support in these roles. For more information on Volunteering with Scouts take a look at the UK Scout Website. https://www.scouts.org.uk/volunteer/volunteering-with-scouts/

Alternatively there are many other Scout Groups in the Winchester District that may be able to help. https://www.winscouts.org/Groups/
